Stampede in Vaishno Devi occured on Saturday (01/01/2021).

Vaishno Devi also known as Mata Rani, Trikuta, Ambe and Vaishnavi is a manifestation of the Hindu Mother Godess, Devi. Vaishnavi was formed from the combined energies of Parvati, Lakshmi and Saraswati. The temple is located in Katra, India.

Stampede place at Vaishno Devi

According to the officials, Stampede happened at Vaishno Devi at around 2:45 am on early Saturday in the area between Gate No.3 and a junction of pathways from the Sanjichhat side and the Adh Kunwari side near the shrine when a huge number of devotees, came to pay their obeisance to mark the beginning of New Year.

Reason for stampede at Vaishno Devi

The officials even said that the stampede was triggered by a ”minor alceration between two groups of young boys on a pathway leading to the shrine complex” amid a massive rush of devotees on New Year.

According to some of the eyewitnesses the situsation worsened after a few policemen restored to a mild lathicharge to control the crowd.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on stampede at Vaishno Devi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is personally monitoring and keeping track of the tragic situation, said according to a minister in his office.

Narendra Modi expressed his condolence and said, ” An ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each would be given to next of kin of those who lost their lives and Rs 50,000 each would be given to one who are injured.
LG Governor Sinha, the chairperson of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Srine Board, announced an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 2 lakh each for the injured.

Investigation on the stampede

Lt Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Mr. Manoj Sinha have said that a high level inquiry has been ordered into the stampede. The inquiry includes a three-membered team led by Principal Secretary Home including the Divisional Commissioner and Additional DGP of Jammu. He even shared the helpline numbers of Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board.

Pilgrims condition on stampede

Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Mr. Mukesh Singh confirmed the news that 12 pilgrims have died and 14 have been injured in the stampede. The injured pilgrims were shifted to the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Super Speciality Hospital in a rescue operation. The four seriously injured patients were admitted to the Intensive Care Unit whose conditions are being managed periodically.
