The first Indian Actress to win Padma Shri Award was Nargis Dutt in the year 1958.
Nargis Dutt received Padma Shri from the President Dr. Rajendra Prasad at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi on 29th October 1958.
Nargis Dutt was born as Fatima Rashid on 1st June 1929 at Calcutta. She was an Indian actress who worked in Hindi cinema and also a politician. She made her debut with the movie Tamanna in the year 1942. Her elder brother was an actor Anwar Hussain. Nargis got married to Sunil Dutt in 1958 and had three children – Priya Dutt, Namrata Dutt and Sanjay Dutt. She died on 3rd May in the year 1981 due to pancreatic cancer.
